"We are thrilled to continue the tradition of the Crackers Classic.
As former participants can appreciate, Dunegrass is an exceptional course that our
players and fans really enjoy. We think this is the perfect way for us to begin
our new relationship with the Buffalo Sabres and introduce the incoming players
to their city, their fans, and the great work done by the United Way of Greater
Portland. We look forward to helping contribute to their 2008 Campaign," said
Brian Petrovek, Foundation President and Managing
Owner/CEO of the Portland Pirates.
This year participants will have the opportunity to play golf with current and former
Pirates players and coaches, former Maine Mariners, and other special guests. The
celebrities at the event will join with registered golfers as a fourth player as
part of the scramble format and a great day of fun.
Participants in the Crackers Classic will receive access to the practice range,
greens fees, golf cart, lunch, golf giveaways, post golf beef and chicken barbeque
and a photo on the Pirates official web site as a participant in the event. Each
golfer will also receive four Pirates Flex tickets which can be used at any game(s)
during the Pirates 2008-2009 regular season. There will also be contests for
closest to the pin, longest drive and putting with many fantastic prizes awarded
for low gross, low net and highest gross.
Sponsorship and participation opportunities start at $200 per golfer or $500 for a
threesome. The field is limited to 144 entries (36 foursomes). The Crackers Classic
also offers option for non-golfers that includes the evening beef and chicken
barbecue for only $40. For more information on participation opportunities and to
receive a tournament registration form or to inquire about sponsorship opportunities,
call the Portland Pirates Foundation at 207 828-4665, ext. 301.
Dunegrass Golf Club opened in
1998 and was designed by Dan Maples, an internationally
known golf course architect. Dunegrass is the Greater Portland area's premier public
golf club. Dunegrass has over 300 acres of coastal terrain to make up an 18-hole
course featuring rolling fairways and undulating greens.
Over the past four years, the Crackers Golf Classic has raised over $15,000 that
has been donated to the 2007 United Way of Greater Portland Campaign,
the Casco Bay Youth Hockey
Association and the Maine
Sled Hockey Program. The Classic has featured former Pirates players, former
Mariners players and various other celebrities who have played with over 300
golfers as part of this annual fundraiser.
