The Portland Pirates Foundation was formed in July, 2003 as a Maine public charitable
corporation and represents the philanthropic arm of Portland Pirates LLC.
The mission of the Portland Pirates Foundation is to enrich and impact the region through
educational, sports-based, community-building and fundraising, programs. The Foundation
leverages the unique talents of Portland Pirates players and staff and collaborates
with local corporate and community partners to make a difference in our local
communities.
The Portland Pirates Foundation, through its leadership, relationships and
through the communication channels of the Pirates hockey team, will advance knowledge
and messages, improve the performances of the causes and people it interacts with and
engage others to follow in a way that individual donors can not, employing a
context-focused philanthropic strategy.
The Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors and will distribute its assets through
programs, activities, services, and grants to meet community needs and to support
local community-based charitable organizations. The Foundation is a member of the Maine Philanthropy Center,
which is one of twenty - nine members of the forum of Regional Associations of Grant
makers, a national network committed to promoting effectiveness in the practice of
philanthropy.
