Gord Dineen
Assistant Coach
Gord Dineen is in his first season with the Pirates as an assistant coach. He
is the son of Bill Dineen, who won two Stanley Cups with the Detroit Red Wings in
1954 and 1955 and is a two-time AHL Louis A.R. Pieri Memorial Award Winner as the
AHL Coach of the Year with the Adirondack Red Wings.
Dineen, 44, was originally drafted by the New York Islanders in 1981 draft (42nd
overall) and played professional hockey for 18 seasons. He made his NHL debut in
the 1982-83 season when he played two games for the New York Islanders. He played a
total of 528 games in his career, for the Islanders, the Minnesota North Stars,
Pittsburgh Penguins and Ottawa Senators, where he was a team captain during the
1993-94 season. Dineen finished his career with 16 goals, 90 assists and 106 points
and won a Stanley Cup in 1991 with the Pittsburg Penguins.
Dineen played his last NHL season in 1994-95 with the Isleanders, but continued to
play in the International Hockey League with the Denver/Utah Grizzlies and the
Chicago Wolves. Most recently, he served as an assistant coach in the AHL for the
Springfield Falcons (2003-04), Utah Grizzlies (2004-05) and San Antonio Rampage
(05-06).
Gord and his wife Alexandra are the proud parents of two children, Molly
and Finnegan.
