BYRON DAFOE  #34

Goaltender Byron Dafoe Byron Dafoe played one full season with the Portland Pirates (1993-94) and was honored by the AHL with the Harry "Hap" Holmes Award given for outstanding goaltending. His 24-16-4 record, 3.34 goals-against average and .891 save percentage earned him a First-Team AHL All-Star selection and helped spark the Pirates’ 1994 Calder Cup Championship run. "Lord Byron" returned to Portland for opening night of the 1994-95 season and, after stints in the IHL and NHL, re-joined the Pirates’ lineup for the AHL playoffs. That summer, Dafoe joined the Los Angeles Kings’ organization and has been an NHL mainstay ever since. Prior to the 1997-98 season, Dafoe was traded to the Boston Bruins and went on to cement himself as one of the NHL’ s elite netminders. In 1998-99, he recorded a League-high 10 shutouts, the most by a Bruins’ goalie since 1938-39. That, along with his 32-23-11 record, 1.99 GAA and .926 save percentage, made him a finalist for the Vezina Trophy, awarded annually to the NHL’s top goaltender. Dafoe’s career Portland statistics were as follows: 53 gp, 29-16-4 record, 3.29 GAA and .901 save percentage.

YEAR INDUCTED:  1999
