Portland Pirates Hall of Fame

TOM EBRIGHT  Owner

Tom Ebright The late Tom Ebright was the owner of the Baltimore Skipjacks and brought hockey back to Portland as the owner of the Portland Pirates in 1993. The 1993-94 season was the inaugural season for the Pirates which was culminated by the team's only Calder Cup Championship. In addition to Ebright's friendly nature and passion as a fan made him a very popular owner to the Portland fans. In addition to his passion for hockey, Ebright also created the groundwork for the Pirates presence in the community that still takes place today.

In the summer of 1997 his health took a turn for the worse due to a heart illness. While waiting for a heart transplant in Hershey, Pennsylvania, he passed away on July 11, 1997.

Tom Ebright and his accomplishments had a distinct impact on the American Hockey League. The Pirates have also named an award after Tom Ebright. The Thomas Ebright Memorial Award is presented annually for outstanding career contributions to the American Hockey League. Ebright was a longtime member of the Board of Governors until his death in 1997. The Portland Pirates have also honored the former owner, with the Tom Ebright Award, given to the player who best exemplifies what it means to be a Portland Pirate.

To this day Mr. Ebright's jersey (#50) has been the only number retired by the Portland Pirates.

YEAR INDUCTED:  2008
