Portland Pirates Internships (In-Season)
The Portland Pirates are currently accepting applications for internships. Internships will take place at the Pirates Offices at 94 Free Street in Portland as well as at the Cumberland County Civic Center on game nights. Applicants should possess strong people skills, and be flexible, dedicated and eager to work in the sports field. A general knowledge of hockey is helpful but not necessary. Internships are not limited to specific departments – opportunity for crossover exists based on the student's interests. There is no monetary compensation for the internship positions listed below (unless otherwise noted). Complimentary parking is provided. Complimentary Pirates game tickets are also provided (in-season).
| Communications |
The student will be involved in the administrative and creative aspects of the
Pirates public relations, communications and marketing efforts. The internship will
include (but is not limited to) a variety of tasks and projects, such as writing press
releases and game recaps, updating web content, assisting with player appearances and
supporting the Pirates radio broadcaster at Pirates home games. Contact Marc Gosselin at

| Consumer Products |
Student will gain valuable experience in all aspects of retail and game day operations
merchandising. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): Assisting in the
organization of inventory management; helping to determine purchasing needs for upcoming
months and holiday season; helping to create marketing collateral for team store and
online store sales; re-stocking of merchandise stands; signage/POS materials; assist
in the execution of the ecommerce site. Experience with the Internet a must and experience

| Finance, Ticket Administration |
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): working closely with the finance
department to gain experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, day-end
close outs, etc, inventory management as it relates to the merchandise department,
processing of ticket package orders, etc. There is also an opportunity to work at
Pirates games and gain valuable sales and customer relations experience. Contact

| Marketing |
Student will gain valuable experience in all aspects of marketing and event
presentation. Opportunities include: sponsorship servicing, database maintenance,
game presentation, coordination of promotional programs (contests, pre-game entertainment,
intermission activities, etc.), promotional writing (game scripts, PA announcements &
intern assignments for games), schedule coordination, events planning (Evening with
the Pirates, Crackers Classic Golf Tournament, Opening Night & other Pirates events)
and website maintenance. There is also an opportunity for an intern with an interest
in non-profit work to assist in administering the Portland Pirates Foundation (donations,

| Media Studies Internship – Game Operations, Video Production |
Intern will work with Pirates Producer, Events, assisting with production of video
replays, play of the game, take out of the game, video trivia clips, creation and/or
management of graphics and slides, video clips and/or animations for video board, OA
lobby board and web site. Intern will gain experience in switching, sound control,
camera direction and shot selection. Intern will also have the opportunity to produce
content (clips, player profiles, game re-caps) that will run during intermissions and/or
before and during the game.
Equipment in use in the video room includes: Instant Replay digital recorder (no experience
required), DVD and DVD-recordable, Daktronics game presentation software (V-Play & Venus),
Touch-screen interface with video capture (some experience with video editing preferred but
not required) from DVD, MiniDV, or VHS, and Microsoft Power Point (experience required).

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): working closely with Pirates
Account Executives selling and processing various ticket products (season ticket
packages, flex ticket products and group ticket packages) as well as assisting with
ticket administration tasks. There is also an opportunity to work at Pirates games

| Team Services - Statistics |
Intern will work with team staff (coaches and off-ice officials) during all Pirates
home games operating a Microsoft based software program to track time-on-ice statistics.
