'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the rink
Not a player was stirring, with a game plan to think;
The Jerseys were hung in the stalls with care,
In hopes that game time soon would be there;
The goalies were nestled all snug in their net;
While visions of shutouts ran through their heads;
And coach Ray in his track suit, and Slanes and Mini on the bench,
planned for the next practice and penalty kill hence,
When out on the ice there arose such a clatter,
Hagel and Louis sprang from the bench to see what was the matter.
Away to center ice they flew like a flash,
dropping the gloves with Bonneau, leaving his face with a gash
The penalty box filled as the junior pirates cleared the snow
Up in the press box Mannix called the action below,
When what to his wondering eyes did appear,
But a Miele hat trick, his first in many a year,
With a fore check and back check, a deke and a dive
the puck left his stick and to the back of the net arrived
Soon after, the faceoff from the referee came,
Won by the Pirates, and a play called by name
"Now, Shinni! now, Marty! now Hextall and Laner!
On, McMillan! on, Summers! on, Brodeur and Yipper!
To the top of the hashmarks! up to the half wall!
Now pass away! shoot away! score away all!"
As leaves that before the Sharks defense hoards,
When they meet with an obstacle, checked into the boards;
So up to the crease the coursers they flew
With the puck on the stick, and an extra attacker too—
And then, in an instant, the goal horn was heard
The yelling and cheering of fans was the word.
As the Pirates turned round and celebration ensued
But a penalty was called and the Colisee crowd booed
the PK Warriors hit the ice in a thunder,
And the Sharks offense could do nothing but blunder;
Not even a shot could they get on the net,
as every challenge the warriors met.
as the penalty ended and the period expired,
the Pirates’ left for the room, the whole team inspired.
the performance by the team left the whole crowd in a tizzy
as the team in the room danced to “Good Vibrations” ‘til they were dizzy;
A celebration in store for the winning effort,
a perfect PK and a game they couldn’t play better;
The three stars then went to the ice
Miele gave his stick to a fan, wasn’t that nice?
The players then packed, and headed for home
down i-95 in cars covered with chrome;
As the lights went off at the AB Colisee,
the rink went silent, and crowd went away.
But It was heard from Salty Pete, ere he sailed out of sight—
“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”
Happy Holidays Pirates Crew!
