Hershey, PA – The Pirates overcame an early deficit and held on for a 3-1 victory over the Hershey Bears on Sunday night in front of a crowd of 7,810 at the Giant Center. The Pirates improves to 5-4-1-1 on the season while the Bears drop to 5-6-1-0. The Pirates finished 1-1-0-1 on their three game road trip.
The Hershey Bears took a 1-0 lead just 6:18 into the game when Tomas Kundratek picked up the rebound on a Jon DiSalvatore andbeat Pirates Goaltender Chad Johnson upstairs for his 3rd goal of the season. Jeff Taffe also picked up an assist on the goal.
The Pirates tied the game at one with six minutes left in the first when Chris Conner found Andy Miele in front of the net, who put it past Bears goalie Braden Holtby for his 5th goal of the season.Michael Stone was also credited with an assist.
The Pirates took a 2-1 lead with 9:24 left in the second period when Stone blasted a one timer off a pass from Mathieu Brodeur past Holtby. It was Stone’s 2nd goal of the season, and second point of the game.
The Pirates extended their lead to 3-1 when Brodeur hit Alexandre Bolduc with a passto send him on a breakaway, beating Holtby to the puck and backhanding it into the wide open net with 9:55 left in the game. It was Bolduc’s team leading 8th goal of the season.
Johnson stopped 22 of the 23 shots he faced and picked up the victory for the Pirates and improved to 4-4-0 on the year. Holtby took the loss for Hershey, stopping 31 of the 34 shots he faced and falls to 3-3-1 on the year.
The Pirates get back to action on November 14 as they take on the Worcester Sharks at the Androscoggin Bank Colissee.
