Brendan Shinnimin scores the Pirates first goal of the day
The Portland Pirates fell to the Manchester Monarchs 5-2 in a day time exhibition game Saturday.
Portland started the scoring early, scoring less than four minutes into the game as Brendan Shinnimin scored on a nice feed from Phil Lane. After the Monarchs tied it up a short time later, Daine Todd again gave the Pirates the lead, jamming home a Brandon McMillan rebound at the 8:47 mark. But the Monarchs took control after that, scoring the final four goals of the game.
Manchester’s Nick Deslauriers had four goals for the Monarchs, scoring in the first, twice in the second with one on the power play and late in the third. Maxim Kitsyn also scored for the Monarchs midway through the third period.
There was a scary moment in the third when a Connor Murphy shot hit Monarch’s defenseman Vincent LoVerde in the face. After staying down for a few minutes, LoVerde was able to skate off the ice with a towel on his face.
The two teams will face off again Sunday at 3 p.m. in Sullivan arena.
