Portland Pirates Announce Captains for 2012-2013 Season
Pirates to begin 20th anniversary season against Adirondack Phantoms
 
 
Portland, MainePortland Pirates Head Coach Ray Edwards announced that Alexandre Bolduc (Montreal, QC, Canada) will serve as captain of the Pirates for the 2012-2013 season. Coach Edwards also announce that Andy Miele (Grosse Pointe Woods, MI), Oliver Ekman-Larsson (Karlskrona, Sweden), Chris Summers (Ann Arbor, MI) and Jordan Szwarz (Burlington ON, Canada) will serve as assistant captains.
 
Alexandre Bolduc will serve as captain of the Pirates. Bolduc, a center, is in his second season with the Pirates, after splitting time between Portland and the Phoenix Coyotes last year. Bolduc appeared in 23 games for Portland, scoring 3 goals and 12 assists. This is his second year with the Coyotes organization, after spending 3 seasons in the Vancouver system. Bolduc has appeared in 48 career games in the NHL.
 
Andy Miele will serve as one of the assistant captains for the Pirates this season. A former Hobey Baker award winner for the Miami University Redhawks, Miele will be in Portland for his second season. In 69 games for the Pirates last season, the center scored 16 goals and notched 38 assists, including 2 powerplay goals as well as a shorthanded tally. Miele also made his NHL debut for Phoenix last year, playing in 7 games.
 
Oliver Ekman-Larsson spent the entire 2011-2012 season with the Phoenix Coyotes. Ekman-Larsson, the 6th overall pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, played in all 82 regular season games for the Coyotes, notching 13 goals and 19 assists. He also played in all 16 playoff games for Phoenix, scoring 1 goal and tallying 3 assists. This will be Ekman-Larsson’s first season with the Pirates, as he last played in the AHL with the San Antonio Rampage.
 
Chris Summers is in his second season with the Pirates after splitting time between Portland and Phoenix in 2011-2012. Summers, a defensemen, has spent parts of two seasons at the NHL level, both with Phoenix, tallying 3 assists in his career. Summers played 28 games for the Pirates last season, notching 2 assists to go with 37 penalty minutes. Summers was a first round draft pick (29th overall) by the Coyotes in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
 
Jordan Szwarz enters his second season with the Pirates, after a successful 2011-2012 campaign. Szwarz played in 58 games with Portland, scoring 20 points (7 Goals, 13 Assists). Szwarz played 4 seasons with the Saginaw Spirit (OHL), winning team MVP in 2010-211. A right winger, Szwarz was a 4th round pick (97th overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
 
 

The Pirates will open their 20th Anniversary season, presented by Bill Dodge Auto Group, on the road against the Adirondack Phantoms on October 13 at 7:00 P.M. The Pirates’ first home game will be played in Lewiston, Maine at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée on October 19 at 7:00 P.M. against the Worcester Sharks. The team will play its first game in Portland on Friday, November 2 at 7:30 P.M. vs. St. John’s at the Cumberland County Civic Center.
