Prospect Profile: Marek Zagrapan


Marek Zagrapan, Buffalo's first round choice (13th overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, is known for his speed and puck handling skills on the ice. The Presov, Slovakia native signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Sabres on September 12th, 2006 and made his AHL debut with the Rochester Americans in the 2006-2007 season.

"Marek Zagrapan is a very quick forward known for his tremendous balance while in possession of the puck. He has one of the fastest hands in the league and can be deadly when he battles the puck with an opponent." (Hockeysfuture.com)

During the 2007-2008 season with the Rochester Americans, Zagrapan played 76 games and recorded 18 goals and 22 assists. In 2006-2007, he finished seventh on the Americans in points with 38, 17 goals and 21 assists. He scored his first AHL goal vs. Toronto on November 26th and had a five game point streak that December, with three goals four assists during that span.



Zagrapan spent two seasons, from 2004-2006, with the Chicoutimi Sagueneens of Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, where he collected 169 points, 67 goals and 102 assists, in 118 games. He led all rookies in scoring in 2004-05 with 32 goals and 50 assists. He recorded 17 points, 11 goals and six assists, points in 17 games during the 2005 QMJHL Playoffs. His 11 goals were second only to Sidney Crosby's 14.
