Dineen and Weinrich to Attend Fundraiser

Portland, Maine - The 7th Annual George HW Bush Cape Arundel Celebrity Golf Classic to benefit Gary's House is fast approaching its June 17th date. Teams from Maine, New England and across the US will compete, each with one Maine Golf Professional, for the tournament championship. The day on the historic Cape Arundel links is followed by an oceanfront cocktail reception, awards dinner and auction at The Colony Hotel in Kennebunkport, Maine.

The event will be headlined by Former Boston Red Sox legends Curt Schilling, Luis Tiant and Rico Petrocelli. Maine notables like Survivor winner Bob Crowley, Portland Pirates Defenseman Eric Weinrich and Coach Kevin Dineen will also attend the festivities. Ecco Shoes will also sponsor a hole where golfers vie for a pair of Ecco golf shoes for their entire team. Jolly John is sponsoring the Hole in One contest, giving everyone a shot to win a brand new Jeep.

For those interested in attending the post-tournament gala, tickets are now available. The gala features a silent and live auction with items like (2) Courtside Seats during the US Open at Arthur Ashe Stadium; Signed Memorabilia from Popular Sports Figures; A One Week Stay in Orlando, Florida with Airfare for 2; Red Sox and Celtics Game Tickets; A Cruise Aboard a Luxury Motor Yacht; Jewelry; Gift Certificates to Local Restaurants…and much more. Visit www.GarysHouse.org for a list of all auction items.

The tournament is the signature fundraising event for Gary's House, a hospitality home operated by Mercy Hospital, for families receiving care at all area hospitals. In 1991, 18-year old Kennebunk resident Gary Pike was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. During the long siege of his disease and treatment, Gary’s parents slept in their car and on the hospital floor in order to stay near him. After Gary’s death in 1993, his mother, Trudy McNeal, spent the next seven years gathering the financial support of family, friends to establish a place where families could rest and refresh in quiet comfort when experiencing the ordeal of a critical illness of a loved one. The warm and spacious home at 97 State Street in Portland is aptly named for the McNeal's courageous and inspirational son.
