Sabres Sign 2008 First Round Pick Tyler Ennis


BUFFALO, NY (September 16, 2009) – Buffalo Sabres GM Darcy Regier announced today the Sabres have signed forward Tyler Ennis to a three-year entry level contract. Ennis was one of Buffalo’s two first-round selections (along with Tyler Myers) in the 2008 Entry Draft, at 26th overall.

Ennis (10/6/1989, 5’9”, 163 lbs.) matched his career-high with 43 goals, and added 42 assists, in 60 games for the Medicine Hat Tigers of the Western Hockey League in 2008-09. The highlight of the season for Ennis was a 6-goal performance on February 27, scoring all of his team’s goals in a 6-2 win over Prince Albert.

Ennis finished with 236 points (115+121) in 245 career games with Medicine Hat, including a career-best 91 points (43+48) in 2007-08. Ennis is also a two-time winner of the WHL’s Most Sportsmanlike Player Award.

A native of Edmonton, Alberta, the 19-year-old Ennis was also a member of Team Canada’s gold medal winning entry at the 2009 World Junior Championships in Ottawa.

The Portland Pirates will play a pair of home pre-season games in preparation for the 2009-10 American Hockey League Regular Season. The exhibition schedule beings Saturday, September 26th when the Lowell Devils visit the Portland Ice Arena for a 5 p.m. start. The Pirates will also take on the University of New Brunswick Reds at the Portland Ice Arena on Wednesday, September 30th at 7 p.m.

All ages, general admission tickets are only $7 per game and available at the Pirates Office (located at 94 Free Street in Portland), by calling (207) 828-4665 ext. 350 or by visiting www.portlandpirates.com.

In addition to the two exhibition games at the Portland Ice Arena, the Pirates will take on the Manchester Monarchs at 2 p.m. at the Notre Dame Arena in Berlin, NH on Sunday, September 27th.

The Pirates open the 2009-2010 American Hockey League regular season with a pair of road games. Saturday, October 3rd the Pirates will be in Springfield to meet the Falcons followed by a Friday, October 9th game against the River Rats in Albany. Both games can be heard live on Atlantic Coast Radio's WLOB 95.5FM/1310AM beginning with the pre-game show at 6:45 p.m.

The Pirates 2009-2010 home opener will take place on Saturday, October 10th when the Providence Bruins visit the Cumberland County Civic Center for a 7 p.m. start. 2009-2010 Season Ticket Holders can purchase additional tickets for the home opener, as well as all other Pirates home games at the Cumberland County Civic Center, from September 18-24th by calling (207) 775-3548 or visiting the Cumberland County Civic Center Box Office.
