2014 Team Awards Voting
The Portland Pirates Team Awards ceremony, presented by Creative Awards, will take place on Saturday, April 19th following the Pirates' 7 PM game against the St. John's IceCaps at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston. As part of the award ceremony, Pirates fans will choose three awards - the Most Popular Player, Unsung Hero, and the Pirates' Most Valuable Player.
Below is the ballots for this year's three fan voted awards. Paper ballots will also be available at all Pirates home game for the month of March in the game program, with extra ballots at Guest Services in the Colisee lobby. Paper ballots will also be available at the Pirates office (94 Free Street, Portland). All paper ballots must be turned in to Guest Services in the Colisee lobby or at the Pirates office in Portland to be tallied. The award winners will be announced on April 19th, along with the Pirates' other team awards.
The Unsung Hero Award is determined by a fan vote and is given to the Pirates player who surpassed expectations to become a vital part of the team. This award is often given to a player out of the spotlight but who is vital to the Pirates’ team. Last year’s winner was Chris Summers, with past winners also including Pirates Hall of Famers Steve Poapst (twice), Kent Hulst, and current Pirates COO Brad Church.
The Most Popular Player Award is awarded to the player that fans view as the Pirates’ most well know player. Last year’s recipient was Andy Miele, with Pirates Hall of Famers Jason Christie (twice), and Kevin Kaminski also receiving the award during their playing careers. Pirates legend Mel Angelstad twice won the award as well.
The Pirates’ Most Valuable Player Award is determined by fan vote and is given to the player deemed the most valuable to the team by the Pirates’ fans. Pirates forward and captain Alexandre Bolduc received the award last year, joining current Pirates forward Andy Miele as well as Pirates Hall of Famers Jeff Nelson, Martin Brochu (twice) and Andrew Brunette as recipients of this prestigious award.
