Unum Educators
Unum and the Portland Pirates are once again teaming up to highlight the great work our educators are doing in Maine's public school systems. The fifth annual Maine Educators' Hall of Fame - Starting 6 Event will take place at the Cumberland County Civic Center during the Portland Pirates game on Friday, January 15, 2010.
Please help us recruit this team!
Quality classroom educators are the key ingredient to improving student performance. Too often, our educators' extraordinary efforts go unnoticed. This is an opportunity to recognize those who, in particular, have created innovative classroom lessons that align with Maine's Learning Results.
The Maine Learning Results identify the knowledge and skills essential to prepare Maine students for Career, College and Citizenship. The Learning Results are built on the premises that:
- all students should aspire to high levels of learning
- achievement should be assessed in a variety of ways
- completion of public school should have common meaning throughout the state
We ask that you nominate an educator from your district or school who has made an extraordinary difference in the classroom. We will select two educators in each grade span of K-4, 5-8, and 9-12. These six educators will receive a check for $500, a personalized Portland Pirates Jersey, choice tickets for six, and will participate in Unum's on-ice ceremony.
Whether it's in the business environment, on the ice, or in the school classroom, achieving high standards is important. Celebrating the good work is equally as important.
To nominate your educator download an application or visit the Customer Service Table in the Main Lobby during Pirates home games. The nomination deadline is Monday, December 7th.
